Fabric Information
Quality, timelessness and practicality are the strongest motivations for Mimi Holvast garments, which translates through our fabric choices. We mostly work with deadstock fabric suppliers - creating less new fabrics and decreasing wasteage within the textile industry.
By sourcing only natural fibre fabrics from Australian Textile agents, we are supporting local businesses and the fashion industry in Australia, while maintaining the ability to stay small scale and conscious of waste, excess fabric & avoid dead stock within collections. These natural fibres are far better for the environment than polyester and nylon alternatives — in terms of their production & after-life effect.
The Textile agents we work with work closely with the fabric manufacturers in Japan, China & New Zealand to provide the highest quality fabrics and to ensure that all working conditions in all steps of production can be overseen & endorsed.
All fabric scraps from the MH studio are kept & recycled for smaller items, such as Scrunchies, and other small projects, both personal & future concepts. We have started a compost system for smaller fabric scraps, to return to the earth naturally, and not contribute to landfill where possible.
